Last month, we shared how the simple things we provide at our Resource Center can help a survivor take a first step toward stability. This month, we're building on that foundation by expanding the connections that help survivors take the next steps.
In September, a new survivor entered Grace House, beginning a new chapter with the support of our community. For residents who have been with us longer, the focus is beginning to shift toward what comes next. Our first Peer Support Internship through San Diego Workforce Partnership has been a tremendous success. Inspired by our Peer Support Specialist, Grace House residents are now utilizing the partnership themselves to explore employment opportunities and build toward greater independence, opening new possibilities for how we can grow our peer support program.
That same spirit of connection is helping us broaden the support available to survivors beyond our own programs. New connections with Exodus Cry and HumanSave are opening access to free therapy and microgrants, while our connection with McAlister Institute's North Inland Women and Adolescent Recovery Center provides another pathway to recovery services.
We're also looking at our own programs with that same goal in mind. We're adding a Codependents Anonymous group and an assertiveness class to complement our existing boundaries work, while reimagining financial literacy to explore how trauma can affect our relationship with money. We also redesigned our screening and intake process to be shorter, more trauma-informed, and more survivor-centered. We're already seeing survivors move through that first step more quickly.
Each new connection creates another possible path forward. We're continuing to build a network of support that meets survivors where they are and helps open the doors to where they want to go.
